hirty-year-old Muhammad Syafik makes a living as a poultry seller at Pasar Modern BSD City in South Tangerang. His daily revenue is in the field of tens of millions of rupiah, far above what he made when he used to be a private sector worker.

"I once worked in a company with a two-year contract. I figured that if my parents, who didn't know how to read or write, could develop in life, then why can't I? I've been in higher education. Was this all I could do? So I decided to shift gears," Syafik said.

Syafik really felt the significant increase in income when he began marketing his goods at Pasar Modern BSD City compared to his previous line of work. "My profits have gone up 80 and even 100 percent," said Syafik, who is expecting the birth of a second child.

He sells an average of 500 chickens daily. This is made up of 150 broiler chickens, 200 roosters and 150 "kampung" chickens. His income ranges between IDR 17-20 million per day. "Each chicken costs IDR 35,000 to IDR 40,000. The bigger ones cost IDR 40,000. A fillet chicken cost IDR 45,000 to IDR 50,000 per chicken."

Syafik currently owns three chicken butcher stores. He says that merchants at Pasar Modern BSD City are satisfied with the ever-increasing number of buyers there. For them, one important ingredient for success is joining Pasar Rakyat School programs provided by Sinar Mas Land, the management team of Pasar Modern BSD City. He believes that this coaching is very useful for developing one's merchant skills.

Syafik always takes note of the important bits of advice he can apply to his poultry business. "I also teach the things I learned from Pasar Rakyat School to my employees. Ever since I underwent this coaching, I've always been a forward thinker, which is also a result of me is hanging out with people who think ahead," he said.

Syafik feels grateful that he can provide a living for his family and can buy them a home. His next target is having his own place for selling chicken meat.

A similar story can be found in the life of Tammi Patriek Setiawan, a 50-year-old vegetable merchant at Pasar Modern BSD City who has also felt the benefits of training from Sinar Mas Land. He hopes that these kinds of training sessions can be offered more often.

Tammi is grateful for being able to sell vegetables at Pasar Modern BSD City, as he feels the place is comfortable. When it rains, he never has to worry about his establishment getting flooded. It's different from the previous markets he has worked in. "It used to be that my place would get easily flooded, which led to customers getting anxious. Here we don't have to worry about the rain," Tammi said.

Business activities at Pasar Modern BSD City run from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. After that, the marketplace has to be emptied and cleaned out by provided the cleaning service. It is no wonder that there are never any complaints about pest issues at Pasar Modern BSD City. According to Tammi, the supervision from the management team at this market is extremely rigorous. The managers ensure that there are never any pest problems there.

Both Syafik and Tammi agree that a clean and comfortable environment is a major factor in attracting visitors to come to Pasar Modern BSD City. That is why the place has become the preferred choice for people in and around the area to do their daily grocery shopping.
