Denpasar: Denpasar has allocated Rp 3.72 billion (US$405,480) to support the national exams for private and state schools at all levels, a senior official said.

The head of Denpasar’s Sport, Youth and Education Office, IGN Eddy Mulya, revealed that the funds would be spent for both mock and real exams, including for vocational school students.

Eddy said Rp 2.02 billion would be given to senior high schools, Rp 853.3 million to junior high schools and Rp 842.2 million to elementary schools.

National exams will start on April 14.

He expected the fund allocation would help reduce education costs. The funding is also aimed at anticipating dropouts caused by the inability of the students to pay exam fees.

“With the provision of these funds, schools are not allowed to ask the students for any payment. If anyone knows or has information about such fees being collected, just tell us. We’ll punish the schools heavily,” he added.
