Jembrana: Prolonged torrential rain on Saturday and Sunday triggered a flood that inundated hectares of rice fields and dozens of houses in Jembrana regency.

The affected houses are situated in Pohsanten village, while most of the submerged rice fields were in Sangkaragung village. The flood destroyed the newly planted rice seedlings and inflicted heavy losses on local farmers.

In Pohsanten, the flood triggered an outbreak of skin disease among the villagers.

“This is a frequently flooded area, because the village’s network of gutters does not work,” said villager Ketut Dani, as quoted by Antara news agency.
