Kuta: Billabong and Magic Wave continue to work together throughout this year creating an amazing surf league for all the young surfer grommets under 14 living in Bali. The Magic Wave Billabong Grommet Series 2012 is on every last Sunday of the month during the dry season. Sunday May 27, 2012 was the second event of the series and continued at Kuta Beach’s famous Half-way. Though the waves were smaller compared to last month’s event, it was still perfect for these little grommets. At 8 o’clock everyone held hands in a prayer circle, blessing all the contestants for a fun, safe and successful contest.

More than excited to get in the water, blessing the day was a great kick start. All these grommets must have been practicing for the last few weeks as the spectators can definitely see how they have improved and become a little more comfortable competing against their friends. Throughout the day the waves stayed quite small but rippable, the crowd was still energetically cheering for their friends in the water. Even the kids were having fun with the snakes they had available for photos. A free health clinic was also available in which locals, tourists and contestants could have a free health checkup.

Iuri Filippini Borba from Indosurflife.com says “I really wanted to film the kids surfing, but ended up filming them on the beach because I loved what I saw there.”

Julika, Billabongs new junior girl team member and winner in the series told us about what she thought of the contest and how she thought it was good for the surf community.

“For me the contest is great for surfing and the kids can get a good insight from the contest and the surfing community, it is very good for the future and for our surf generation,” she said.
