Buleleng: Buleleng regional administration has planned to upgrade Letkol Wisnu airstrip in Gerokgak village to become a new commercial airport.

The plan was revealed during a meeting between Buleleng Legislative Council and Bali International Flight Academy (BIFA) recently.

Putu Mangku Budiasa, chairman of the council, said that Buleleng needed a new airport to cater for domestic flights.

The Gerokgak airport is currently used for light aircraft.

Previously, the Bali provincial administration planned to build an alternative international airport in Buleleng regency as an additional airport to Ngurah Rai Airport in Tuban, Kuta.

That plan is still under discussion among the central, provincial and regional governments.
