Lontar exhibition at arts center
DENPASAR: A special exhibition and presentation on Balinese ancient lontar manuscripts will be held at Studio Patung (Sculpture Studio) near Gedung Kriya at the Arts Center on Jl. Nusa Indah on Friday, June 15, at 1 p.m.
The presentation of the digitalization of the lontar scripts will feature Ron Jenkins, professor of theater at the Wesleyan University; Nyoman Catra, professor of the arts at the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI) Denpasar; and
Made Dewa Dharma.
The Digital Lontar Preservation project is being made available with the support of the San Francisco-based Internet Archive Foundation and the Bali Cultural Office.
The team has digitalized over 2,000 palm leaf lontar manuscripts that can be accessed free of charge from anywhere in the world through archive.org/details/Bali.
In addition to the presentation, an exhibition entitled “Pameran Lontar Usada Bali”, will take place during the month-long Arts Festival, which will end on July 9.
The exhibition displays lontar that contain information on traditional Balinese medicines.
