Denpasar: Denpasar municipal government has proposed a Rp 100 million (US$10,600) fund to insure its trees as part of its program to protect the city landscape.

I Ketut Wisada, head of the city Sanitation and Landscape Agency, said that the insurance would cover trees along the main streets.

There are 50,000 trees planted along the city’s main streets. The Jakarta administration insured its trees a few years ago.

“There are many old trees along the main streets that might topple during the rainy and windy seasons,” he said.
