Tabanan: Penebel village in Tabanan regency, where the UNESCO world cultural heritage Jatiluwih rice fields are located, has been selected to host the 2013 Miss World pageant.

“Tabanan has been chosen as the 2013 Miss World host because we are highly appreciative of our environment,” Tabanan Deputy Regent Komang Gede Sanjaya said as quoted by Antara news agency on Thursday.

Tabanan is widely known for its traditional subak rice fields after recently being named a UNESCO world cultural heritage.

Sanjaya said that Tabanan was very proud of its natural scenic paddy fields and rivers.

“While other regencies are welcoming investors to build huge hotels in their areas, we aim at focusing on developing ecotourism, adhering to principles of environmentally friendly tourism development,” he said.
