Bang Yoss’ 24-hour chicken porridge
Chicken porridge serves two main roles here: a light breakfast food and a comfort food for those who succumb to common colds and sore throats.
Warm rice porridge served with shredded fried chicken, chopped fresh celery, fried shallots and that omnipresent cracker called krupuk is usually what chicken porridge looks like.
In Bang Yoss’ porridge stall, however, the set looks a bit different with the addition of savory satay comprising chicken’s intestine and liver. For a westerner, it may look a bit gross. Yet, it doesn’t hurt to give this satay a try. Just close your eyes and bite it. Chances are, you will find it more delicious than the meaty parts of the chicken.
The stall lies on the intersection near the Kuta market. It is a simple stall with enough tables and plastic chairs for 20 persons. The stall opens 24-hours-a-day, an ability that wins it many loyal customers among the workers of Kuta’s night spots.
A portion of the chicken porridge will set a customer back Rp 8,000. That is less than one dollar, a good alternative for those who are a bit tight in the wallet or simply want to taste a new meal.
