Getting to Siena

Sun, 03/09/2008 12:43 AM

Siena has no airport. The nearest destination that does is Florence. There are buses that go daily every two hours to Siena from Florence, and it takes less than an hour.

You will arrive at Siena's only terminal at Piazza San Domenico, which is also the point from which you travel to cities surrounding Siena.

There are also buses connecting Siena and Rome, although on a less-frequent basis. It takes between three to four hours to travel between the two cities.

Siena is not on a main train line, so taking the bus is more convenient. If you do opt for the train, you have to take the bus to get into the city. From Rome, it is necessary to change at Chiusi station. From Florence, you change at Empoli.

Most residents in Siena do not speak English, so knowing several important words or sentences in Italian will come in handy. -- Tony Hotland
