Indonesia and Thailand agreed Wednesday to continue their cooperation on food security to deal with the increasing food price in the world.
The agreement was reached in a meeting between Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Thailand Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej in Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
“We realize that the world faces a growing food problem. The first step to deal with that is maintaining our cooperation on rice,” President Yudhoyono said, adding that Indonesia would partly need to import rice from Thailand to meet local demand.
Sundaravej told a press conference that his country would prioritize Indonesia in its rice trade.
