Unjani and Somalia forge cooperation on education

Somalia’s Ambassador to Indonesia Mohhad Ollow Barrow and his entourage, including representatives from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Kenya, Congo, Uganda, Namibia, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Seychelles, were engaged in a discussion about student dormitories, the provision of English lecturers and programs commonly run by the university with Jendral Achmad Yani University (Unjani) rector Heriyono during their visit to Bandung, West Java, on June 2.

The ambassador expressed a strong interest to introduce facilities available at the university to Somalian students and advise them to pursue an education at the university’s schools of medicine and engineering, as well as civil, electrical, chemical and industrial engineering.

In the first stage, Somalia will send around 100 students to Unjani, the Ambassador said.

Rector Heriyono pledged to fulfill the needs of Somalian students and those from other African countries so that Bandung could serve as a center of learning for African students and build a cultural bridge between students from Indonesia and African countries.

Consul Seychelles Nico Barito, who acted as a moderator, emphasized the importance of academic cooperation to boost South-South cooperation.
