HSBC holds “car-free day” challenge on World Environment Day

The HSBC Group was keen to support the UN’s World Environment Day (WED) by launching a global yet local “Be Part of the Solution” campaign. Through this campaign, the international banking institution encourages its employees to change their daily routines and behavior for a greener world.

In Indonesia, one of the initiatives arranged during WED on June 5, was a “car-free day” program whereby all HSBC personnel were asked to walk, cycle or carpool to and from work. On the day, HSBC also offered free emission checks on carpool vehicles and arranged an environmental talk show.

HSBC Indonesia CEO Rakesh Bhatia said: “HSBC is committed to addressing the impacts of climate change. It is important that we engage our employees worldwide on environmental initiatives to raise their awareness so that they can be part of the solution.”
