Following the success of New Mercedes-Benz E-Class W212, Mercedes-Benz Indonesia has unveiled a Complete Knock Down (CKD) version of the model, locally produced under license of the global automaker in Wanaherang, Cibinong, West Java.
“We initiated local production to fulfill high customer demand for our E-Class series,” said Mercedes-Benz Indonesia president director Rudi Borgenheimer. “We hope to suppress the selling price for this model to strengthen our edge in the market.”
Mercedes-Benz Indonesia has injected an extra US$6 million investment in Indonesia to enhance production facilities as well as bringing in extra testing facilities to maintain the cars’ superior quality.
The company expects to sell 300 more E-Class units up to the end of year. “For 2010, we are targeting as many as 1,400 total unit sales for this series,” said Borgenheimer.
E-Class’ CKD model will be priced between Rp 800 million and Rp 1 billion, while the previous CBU model has been sold at Rp 1 billion to Rp 1.3 billion off the road.
