Bank Mega records 43 percent credit card growth

PT Bank Mega Tbk recorded a 43 percent growth on its credit card market by the end of 2009. The percentage is equal to roughly Rp 4.6 trillion, and the company is targeting growth of outstanding credit cards of up to Rp 6 trillion to Rp 7 trillion this year.

Kostaman Thoyib, Bank Mega’s president director, pointed out that although credit expansion remained relatively low in 2009, the bank’s main credit demands through use of credit cards continued to escalate. “Our credit cards booked enormous growth compared to other types of credit cards,” he said.

In 2009, Bank Mega issued 650 new credit cards for customers. The bank has recently launched a corporate card variant, allowing member corporations a number of privileges and benefits.

By Q3 2009, PT Bank Mega Tbk booked a net profit of Rp 329.1 billion, gave total credits worth Rp 6.196 billion and generated a fee-based income of Rp 363.1 billion, with a capital adequacy ratio of 19.27 percent and loan deposit ratio of 60.58 percent.
