em>Southeast Asia’s most prominent art event encapsulates a critical meeting point for international galleries, collectors and key art players.

The new international art fair, ART SG 2023 will soon welcome art enthusiasts with the aim of strengthening the bonds between the global art world of collectors and the Southeast Asian region.

The exhibition will take place at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre from Jan. 12-15, 2023, with a VIP preview to commence the event on Jan. 11.

“We’re thrilled to launch this brand new fair with over 150 galleries from Asia, Europe and the United States,” shared Magnus Renfrew, cofounder of ART SG at the media gathering held at ROMA Osteria & Bar, Jakarta, on Sept. 6.

The art fair will present significant local, regional and international galleries, such as Gagosian Gallery from New York, which has previously worked with world-renowned artists, including KAWS and Takashi Murakami. Other galleries that will also take part include Gallery Hyundai from Seoul, GALLERY TARGET from Tokyo, and many more.

Three notable galleries with spaces from Indonesia (Lawang Wangi Creative Space, ISA Art & Design and Gajah Gallery, which have worked with local artists like Erizal A.S and Tisna Sanjaya, among many others) will also participate.

Noorani Sukardi Soeprapto, an Art SG representative for Indonesia, shared that Indonesia’s art collectors are known as among the most active and passionate figures in the global art scene. Noorani further emphasized that Singapore’s location will strategically host the biggest international art fair in the region, bringing together Southeast Asian collectors and galleries worldwide.

“The concept of an art fair enables collectors to build connections with many galleries within one place,” stated Noorani.

“The launch of ART SG in January with such an impressive list of world-class galleries thus becomes a testament to strengthen and cement such a potential fair, particularly for Singapore and the art scene in Southeast Asia,” said August Hatecke, co-head of wealth management in the Asia Pacific, and UBS global wealth management country head of UBS Singapore in his statement.

Magnus also described Singapore as a gateway for Southeast Asia and other parts of the world. “Nothing will ever make us happier if collectors and galleries could discover Southeast Asia through Singapore, visit Indonesia and visit the art scene,” Magnus asserted.

The ART SG will exhibit five different sectors, covering main galleries, focus, futures, reframe and film. The main galleries will present a range of galleries worldwide. The focus section is dedicated to solo or duo artists with a curated thematic presentation. Futures will feature new galleries under the age of six years. Reframe focuses on the augmented, virtual reality and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) which have been dominating the art industry hype for the last two years.

As an additional bonus, there will be immersive installations for art collectors to enjoy.

The film sector will be curated by Gridthiya Gaweewong, one of the most renowned curators at the Jim Thompson Art Center in Bangkok. Her work has been acknowledged as addressing issues regarding social transformation and confronting artists from Thailand and beyond.

The fair director of ART SG, Shuyin Yang, added that she looked forward to empowering new art connoisseurs to have more open discussions with the art community.

“ART SG will not only invite the world’s leading collectors and art leaders to experience Singapore and all that the region has to offer, but also encourage a new generation of emerging collectors to be inspired by the rich diversity of art immediately at our doorstep,” Shuyin said in a statement.
