ollowing the popularity of live video app Periscope among Twitter users, the social network company has introduced new features to make it easier for users to discover and watch Periscope broadcasts.

Dubbed Highlights, one of the new features allows users to catch up on new broadcasts or any search results by providing automatically-generated short trailers of every Periscope broadcast on their home feed. "We look at a variety of signals to determine what parts of a replay should be included in a highlight and will continue to improve these signals over time," said Periscope, which was acquired by Twitter last year, on its blog on Friday.

Twitter also encourages users to play Periscope broadcasts in embedded tweets, saying that some media outlets had utilized this feature to bring their stories to life.

"On Android, live broadcasts will autoplay in the Watch Tab and Global Feed without sound, so you can see what’s happening around the world immediately when you open Periscope. If you find a broadcast interesting, you can simply tap to get the full live experience," added Periscope, describing another new feature.

Replay highlights will reportedly be available on iOS and Android in the next few days, while Android will be the first to enjoy autoplay, followed by iOS.

With this combined feature, Periscope broadcasts can now be seen from anywhere through a Twitter link that is connected to the Periscope stream. This streamlines the ability to have two applications in one and also allows both social network apps to take advantage of each other’s strengths. It also makes it easier for Periscope users to share their broadcasts via Twitter, giving their followers direct access to these broadcasts instead of having to click a link or open the application on their smartphone.
