T

he Jakarta Arts Council (DKJ) is set to hold a literary criticism course between August and September in Cikini, Central Jakarta, to nurture budding literary critics.

“When we held a competition and many people sent their manuscripts, we saw that many people do not understand what literary criticism is,” said award-winning author Linda Christanty, who is also a member of DKJ's literature committee, in a press conference on Thursday. “Some people think that literary criticism is the same as giving criticism by saying, ‘Your writing is good’ or ‘Your writing is bad’. But actually, literary criticism is a discipline that is similar to the history of literature and other knowledge.”

Those who are interested in participating in the course can visit DKJ's official website. The enrollment period will end on July 27 and selected participants will be announced on Aug. 3.

In addition to the literary criticism course, the council is also offering other interesting programs including a novel competition and literary criticism competition. (kes)
