Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi has recently introduced an entirely different product: a notebook.
Dubbed Mi Notebook Air, the portable and lightweight laptop runs on Windows 10 and comes in 2 sizes: 13.3 and 12 inches. According to engadget.com, other highlighted features included a full HD 1080p screen with slim glass bezels and a webcam, a backlit keyboard, a USB type C charger and a minimalistic, monochrome and metallic design that comes in either gold or silver. Furthermore, a final touch to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible – no logo on the outside.
The flagship 13.3 inch model comes in at 14.8mm and weighs in at only a measly 1.28 kilograms considering that it runs an Intel Core i5-6200U dual core processor that can be overclocked to 2.7GHz and an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU. It also runs 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a 256GB SSD via PCIe.

The second, smaller model is even slimmer and lighter coming in at 1 kg with a 12.9mm screen. This is clearly the model used for portability and not for all-round use given its lack of dedicated GPU. It instead has an Intel Core M3 CPU with 4GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD and instead of 2 USB 3.0 slots, you only get one.
With prices ranging from about US$520 to $750, Xiaomi reportedly stated that it aimed to attract young adults who prefer a balance between performance and portability. There is no news on the product's global availability yet, but Chinese customers can expect to get their hands on the notebook starting from Aug. 2.
