ogyakarta-based band Shaggydog marks its return with a new album set to be released on Aug. 17. The album was produced to commemorate Indonesia’s independence.
The DoggyHouse Record-produced album titled Putra Nusantara (Son of the Archipelago) consists of 12 songs and some of the songs have been released before as singles or on compilation albums such as “Putra Nusantara”, “Bolamania” and “Kamu Di Hatiku”.
The single “Putra Nusantara” may sound different from the band’s previous songs as the lyrics criticize the country's development. The lyrics also touch on several problems that are faced by the younger generation.

Several notable musicians participated in the album’s production, including renowned Indonesian rapper Iwa K, who lends his voice to “Putra Nusantara” and artist Sujiwo Tejo, who played a musical instrument and sings suluk (a Javanese anthem) on a song titled “Pion”. Riri from the band Everyday gave a jazzy touch to “Kamu Di Hatiku”, while Souljah's Danar participated as a guest vocalist on several songs on the album.
DJ Kateratchy participated in the song titled “Bianglala” and Japanese musician Tony The Weed shows off his harmonica skills in “Kere Hore”. Based on the variety of musicians the band has collaborated with, it can be seen that Shaggydog's music has developed and is now more open to different genres other than ska and reggae.
