talian contemporary dance company Artemis Danza will stage I Bislacchi – A Tribute to Fellini at the Ciputra Artpreneur Theater, South Jakarta, on Oct. 21, combining the art of dance and the works of legendary film director Frederico Fellini.

Choreographer and director Monica Casadei has merged imagery, scenes and the characters of several of Fellini’s films with poetic dance movements to portray the fascinating, colorful, fantastical and humorous world of the 1993 recipient of the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.

The performance will be part of the worldwide Italian Language Week, which is themed “Italian Creativity: Brands and Costumes, Fashion and Design” and brought to Jakarta by the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta in collaboration with Ciputra Artpreneur.

“Artemis Danza represents the theme title, and Casadei herself is a fashion designer who created all the costumes inspired by the movies of Fellini,” said Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta director Michela Linda Magri at a recent press conference.

The movies include La Strada, La Dolce Vita, Fellini's Casanova and Ginger e Fred.

The theatrical dance is accompanied by music from composer and pianist Nino Rota, who received the Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Godfather Part 2.

The dance company will bring seven dancers for the performance and collaborate with local dance students, including some from the Indonesian Dance Society founded by Juliana Tanjo. (kes)
