Rising Indonesian star Raisa has shared a stage with American singer Peabo Bryson.

The duo sang several Walt Disney soundtrack duet songs, namely "Beauty and the Beast" and "A Whole New World", at the Economics Jazz Live XXII concert in Grha Sabha Pramana, Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta on Saturday.

As part of the performance, Raisa, who was dressed in a white gown, also ballroom danced for a while with Bryson, who wore a red suit, seemingly a recreation of a scene from the famous animation film Beauty and the Beast.

Prior to the performance, the 65-year-old R&B and soul singer-songwriter shared his thoughts with tempo.co. “Good music is music that can change people and the world for the better,” he said after a press conference in Yogyakarta on Friday.

He described Beauty and the Beast as a song that could teach people to discover other cultures and unfamiliar things, as well as praising animation as a genre that would last forever. “Through music, children can learn and grow by seeing various kinds of different things. Music makes humans more passionate, enthusiastic and tolerant. It can also pose as a therapy”.

Economics Jazz is an annual concert held by the student body of Gadjah Mada University’s faculty of economics and business.

Raisa and Bryson previously performed together at a Jakarta gig in August. (mas/kes)
