Instagram Stories and Facebook Live Stories, which are highly similar to Snapchat's 24-hour Story feature, were assumed to be the cause of the decline.
Snapchat was first recognized for its message feature that saw messages disappear 10 minutes after opening. The apps later changed the feature, replacing it with a message that stays until the receiver deletes it.
In addition to the download drop, the parent company Snap Inc. also submitted its first earnings report for the very first time, revealing a US$2.2 billion loss for the first quarter. The loss was doubled when compared with the previous year. (jes/kes)
