U

p to 70 performances are set to enliven the return of the Bali Mandara Mahalango festival in Budaya Park, Denpasar, from July 9 onwards.

Bali Cultural Agency head Dewa Putu Beratha said the event will hold one daily performance on weekdays and two daily performances on weekends until the end of the festival, which is scheduled to run for 50 days.

A colossal music collaboration by Pramusti Bali community, titled Harmoni Gita Nusantara, is slated to open the festival at the Ardha Candra open stage in Budaya Park.

“In this year's festival, we will create a music collaboration themed ‘Unity in Diversity’ as our nationalism spirit,” said IGN “Rahman” Murthana, head of Pramusti Bali, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The performance, which is set to be divided into several segments, will highlight local Balinese comedy acts, such as Dabdab, Perak, Cedil, the Topeng Tugek group, Carangsari and Badung. Other performers scheduled to entertain visitors include Palawara studio, Cahya Art, Drum Percusion, and Joni Agung & Double T featuring Genjek Masekepung.

Rahman said the performance would serve as a show of appreciation for the late IGP Wedhasmara.

“He was a songwriter that is known nationally. To honor him, we will perform his songs as we are proud to have had such a legendary musician,” he said.

Event curator I Made Bandem said that Bali Mahalango, an event annually conducted after the Bali Arts Festival, will further strengthen the arts in Bali.

“We have managed to map the three biggest arts agendas in order to accommodate local artists in delivering their artworks in the Balinese art stage,” he said, adding that among the biggest art events were the Bali Arts Festival, which is mainly dominated by classic arts performances; Bali Mandara Mahalango, which features more popular arts; and Bali Mandara Nawanatya, which focuses on contemporary art.
