Atari has just released some news about their upcoming Ataribox game console, one of which is that it will come in two versions.

Teased earlier this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017, clearer photos of the Ataribox has been sent out to Atari fans via email, according to The Verge.

Atari reveals in the email, “Our objective is to create something new, that stays true to our heritage, while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.”

As teased in the released video, the Ataribox takes inspiration from the classic Atari 2600 game console and features a wood panel. The Ataribox will have an HDMI port, four USB ports and an SD card slot for expansion. The second version will have a red panel in place of the wooden one on the default model.

Atari will be incorporating classic games into the console along with “current content.”

Based on the revealed details, it sounds like the Ataribox will be similar to Nintendo’s classic NES and SNES releases rather than a competitor to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch.

An SD card would also provide little expansion space considering that modern video games eat up tens of gigabytes.

Information about pricing, availability, game lineup and release date have yet to be revealed but these should be addressed soon after Atari gets more feedback from the community.
