‘Marlina’ named Best Picture at Five Flavours film festival in Poland A still from 'Marlina: The Murderer in Four Acts' (Cinesurya Pictures/File)

Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts won yet another award from the Five Flavours Film Festival held in Poland from Nov. 15 -22.

The announcement was posted on the festival’s website on Wednesday. The jury chose Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts as the best picture of the competition.

The film production company, Cinsesurya, uploaded the jury’s statement on its Twitter account: “Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts was our unanimous choice for the NETPAC award at this year’s Five Flavours Film Festival. The film has a unique singular vision, particularly in its stylistic qualities, using the iconography of the western transposed onto contemporary Asian landscapes. It is striking and challenging and carries with it exceptional qualities in editing and sound design in particular. Mouly Surya is no doubt one of Asian cinema’s outstanding talents today, and she brings her distinctive voice to this film.”

Cinesurya expressed its gratitude and congratulated director Mouly Surya on the award.

“Congratulations to Mouly Surya and all the team involved in the Marlina movie for this award. Congratulations as well to all Indonesian movie lovers who supported the film by watching it. This is our collective victory.”

The Five Flavors Film Festival is an annual survey of South and Southeast Asian cinema. For the past 11 years, the festival has carefully curated films from the region to present to the Polish audience. Aside from new films, the festival also features classics from the Asian archives, retrospectives from chosen filmmakers and national cinema retrospectives.

Prior to this award, Marlina has won the Best Scenario award at the FIFFS Morocco, Best Actress at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, Spain, and Best Picture at the Asian NestWave from The QCinema Film Festival, in the Philippines.
