ultivision Pictures (MVP Pictures) has announced that it will soon release a remake of the classic horror film Kuntilanak, with Rizal Mantovani once again at the helm as director.

Kuntilanak was one of the first horror films I made, and it had a great reception. I feel the need to add something new to the movie – a modernized version,” Rizal said in a statement released on Wednesday as reported by Antara

The original Kuntilanak films were released as a trilogy from 2006 to 2008 by MVP Pictures. Julie Estelle played the lead in all three films.

The new Kuntilanak stars Aurelie Moeremans, known for her roles in Catatan Dodol Calon Dokter (2016) and Jomblo Reboot (2017).

The film tells the story of a group of children who explore an abandoned house in the hope of winning a reality show contest by proving the existence of kuntilanak (a female vampiric ghost).

Executive producer Amrit Punjabi said that with the company aiming to attract every age group, producers chose to cast children in the main roles.

“The child actors were great, to be honest. Rizal himself was impressed by them. Please see the film when you have the chance,” Amrit said.

Though the plot of this movie differs from its predecessors’, it still contains one crucial connection to the original trilogy.

“The mirror was an important part of the [original] films, and it also means something in the new film,” he said.

The new Kuntilanak also stars Andryan Sulaiman, Sandrinna Michelle Skornicki, Adlu Fahrezy and Fero Walandouw

Its official trailer was released in early May, while the film will hit theaters on June 15. (wng)
