olex has announced that it has become an official sponsor of the US Open, which will take place from Aug. 27 to Sept. 9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York in the United States.

The luxury watch brand will serve as the tournament’s official timekeeper and official timepiece. At Arthur Ashe Stadium, the signature clock affixed to the outer façade will show a Rolex display.

Rolex has supported tennis tournaments for 40 years, along with the sports’ leading players and major organizations. It started when the brand supported The Championships, Wimbledon in 1978, and has also partnered with the Australian Open and the Davis Cup.

Stewart Wicht, president and CEO of Rolex Watch USA, said in a press statement that Rolex naturally would seek to build on its Grand Slam heritage, as the two shared a passion for quality, excellence, precision and performance.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the US Open, which will also see the inaugural season of the new Louis Armstrong Stadium, part of the newly transformed National Tennis Center.

The Opening Night Ceremony on Aug. 27 will feature Kelly Clarkson, the Grammy Award-winning singer who was the first-ever American Idol winner. Former US Open champions include Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Andy Murray and Steffi Graff. (wng)
