The 2108 SIAL InterFOOD culinary exhibition is slated to run on Nov. 21-24 at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, according to Kompas.com.

SIAL InterFOOD, held annually, is an international food exhibition affiliated with the French trade fair Salon International de L’alimentation (global food marketplace). It hosts food, beverages, horeca (hotel, restaurant, café) equipment, catering services and bakery booths.

"This exhibition is closely related to the support for tourism, as tourists come for leisure, business and MICE,” Tourism Ministry industry and institutional development deputy Rizki F. Handayani Mustafa said at the press conference for SIAL InterFOOD on Thursday.

Activities in the exhibition will include chef’s cooking competitions, a tea-brewing demonstration and contest, seminars and workshops on coffee and wine, as well as business meetings between international culinary industry practitioners.

"I really appreciate SIAL for developing domestic industries. Hopefully this event can contribute to the growth of our food industry and resources, making them more popular worldwide," Rizki said.

This year, SIAL InterFOOD has set a 75,000-visitor target. Last year, 900 participants from 33 countries and 53,000 visitors from 49 countries took part in the event. (iru/mut)
