In the letter the group leader comforted fans, writing, “I will be taking a brief period to rest. Please consider this as my opportunity to prepare a better version of myself to you.”

The singer asked fans to listen to his voice when they think of him and to stay healthy and happy until he is discharged.

The singer will enlist for his compulsory military service Monday afternoon. S.M. Entertainment, representing the artist, commented that “the specific time and date will not be disclosed upon Onew’s wish.”

Onew released the solo album Voice on Wednesday as a parting gift for fans. He is the first member of SHINee to begin his service.
