Cinema XXI and CGV theaters have prepared new health protocols in advance of reopening during the “new normal” period.

Dewinta Hutagaol, head of corporate communications and brand management of Cinema XXI, said the cinema chain would perform temperature checks on visitors as well as requiring staff members and visitors to wear face masks.

“We will also practice physical-distancing measures with the minimum distance of 1 meter in the theater,” Dewinta told kompas.com.

The cinema will also provide handwashing facilities and hand sanitizers, along with performing regular disinfection of all of its cinemas in 52 cities across Indonesia.

“When the time comes [to reopen], we are ready to welcome moviegoers and to apply the ‘new normal’ protocols following the government’s instructions,” said Dewinta.

Another popular cinema chain, CGV Cinemas, will implement several health protocols, such as using digital-payment methods or e-wallets, performing temperature checks on staff members and visitors. Physical-distancing measures will also be applied, including a one-seat gap between audience members inside the theaters.

“As we’ll be applying physical-distancing protocols in seating, we will not have 100 percent occupancy inside the theaters,” said Hariman Chalid, spokesman for CGV, in a statement.

Visitors and staff members will also be required to wear face masks and wash their hands regularly.

Hariman said the cinema chain was still waiting for the government’s instructions on the reopening date. Though shopping malls in Jakarta can operate starting on June 15, movie theaters have yet to receive similar news.

CGV Cinemas suspended its operations across Indonesia on March 31. For the time being, CGV has been stepping up its game by producing digital content on social media, such as Instagram Live sessions with actors and film producers. As for their forthcoming plans, Hariman said they would produce short videos.

“The responses have been positive, we have even attracted sponsors,” said Hariman. (wir/wng)
