French film set in Bali premieres in Paris

Une Barque Sur L’Ocean is expected to pave the way for more collaborations between Indonesia and France in the entertainment and tourism industries.

he film Une Barque Sur L’Ocean had its premiere at Cinema Le Balzac in Paris on Saturday, supported by the Indonesian Embassy in Paris and the Visit Indonesia Tourism Office (VITO) .

Written and directed by Arnold de Parscau, Une Barque Sur L’Ocean depicts a romance between a French woman and a Balinese man in a small village in North Bali. A trained pianist named Margaux (Dorcas Coppin) charms Eka (Hari Santika) who wants to make a breakthrough in his musical career.   

Arnold de Parscau has made short movies and a feature film called Ablations.

Une Barque Sur L’Ocean is expected to pave the way for more collaborations between Indonesia and France in the entertainment and tourism industries.

“A film is one of the ways to promote Indonesian destinations, along with its cultural and natural wonders. They are fascinating as a background for films,” said Indonesian Ambassador to France Armanatha C. Nasir in a statement, as quoted by tempo.co

Eka Moncarre of VITO said the screening commemorated the 70-year bilateral relationship between the two countries. “French tourists rank second in the number of European travelers visiting Indonesia,” she said.

Earlier this month, the first digital magazine about Indonesian cuisine in the French language was launched.

Bumbu (Seasoning) is a collaboration between an Indonesian team and the French branch of VITO. It aims to help French people delve into Indonesia’s culinary scene.

Its first edition contains pieces on a bakery called Und Corner in Malang, East Java, which preserves the flavors of the past; warung burjo (mung bean porridge stand); characteristics of Indonesian dishes; and teh talua (egg-yolk tea), among other things. (wng)
