A

merican actor Kevin Spacey will make his return in a new Italian film titled L’uomo Che Disegnò Dio--or The Man Who Drew God, nearly four years after sexual assault allegations were leveled against him in late 2017.

ABC News reported that the film would be directed by Franco Nero, best known for his role as an actor in the Spaghetti Western film Django (1966) as well as Django Unchained (2012). The film is set to be shot in Italy and star Nero’s wife Vanessa Redgrave

“I’m very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film.” Nero told ABC News. “I consider him a great actor, and I can’t wait to start the movie.”

Spacey will have a small role as a police detective, whereas Franco Nero will star as the main character with Redgrave being his character’s piano teacher, the film’s producer Louis Nero told Variety. The film is Franco Nero’s second feature after Forever Blues in 2005, and it is reportedly about “the rise and fall of a blind artist who has the extraordinary gift of making true-to-life portraits just by listening to human voices,” according to Filmitalia.

This will be Spacey’s first film role following a wave of sexual assault and misconduct allegations against him starting in October 2017. The actor rose to stardom in the 1990s with films such as The Usual Suspects (1995) and American Beauty (1999), which won him Academy Awards accolades for best supporting actor and best leading actor, respectively. His success continued as he garnered critical acclaim for his role in Netflix’s House of Cards (2017), before he was removed from the show as allegations of sexual assaults started, the first ones being from actors Anthony Rapp and Roberto Cavazos.

Twenty more people from the Old Vic theater, where Spacey was the artistic director from 2004 until 2015, accused him of sexual misconduct in 2017. Spacey was further charged with indecent assault of an 18-year-old boy in Massachusetts in 2018, but the supposed victim eventually dropped his civil lawsuit against the actor.

Outside of his annual Christmas videos, Spacey has been laying low for the last couple of years and has so far declined various requests from news sources for comments about his new role.
