Jalan K.S. Tubun Raya near Tanah Abang market in Central Jakarta is popular among Jakartans as a neighborhood where its street vendors sell second-hand electronics.
However, one of the street vendors, Asep, 60, is an exception. He sells antiques.
Asep has been selling antiques on one of the corners in front of a money-changer office for almost 40 years.
Aladdin-style lamps, antique irons and Chinese plates are among the many items that he sells.
He loves his job and has no immediate plan to change his trade.
“If I am lucky, I can buy an antique for Rp 150,000 (US$16.5) and then sell it on to my customers for Rp 2 million,” he said.
Muhammad Rizqi Arifuddin has the story.
