Officials face lawsuit for floods

JAMBI: Jambi residents plan to sue the municipal administration for losses caused by flooding.

Hatta, head of the neighboring community in Jelutung district, said his area was not among those prone to floods and claimed that the recent floods were the first they had encountered in five years,

“Floods have hit five times since August. Water reached up to 1 meter. It’s time to sue the administration,” he said, blaming local officials for not taking sanitation seriously.

Dedi, a resident from another district, said he planned a class action suit facilitated by an NGO.

“We demand compensation for the loss caused by the floods,” he
