JAKARTA: Vice President Boediono says the best approach to maintaining the country’s sovereignty is through the improvement of people’s welfare.
Speaking during his visit to Indonesia’s border on Sebatik Island in East Kalimantan, Boediono said that people living in border areas would help the government to maintain the country’s sovereignty should they prosper.
“Of course, the military and police will still be in charge as sovereignty’s last defense,” he said.
“I believe that we can work together to preserve Indonesia’s sovereignty,” Boediono added, as quoted by Antara.
Also participating in the visit were Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad and Deputy National Education Minister Fasli Djalal. —JP
