JAKARTA (JP): School holidays are still a month away, but local child singer Sherina Munaf is ready to entertain her fans with her debut movie Petualangan Sherina, the Adventure of Sherina, to be released on June 14.
Petualangan Sherina, a 114-minute musical film, will have to compete withDreamworks' comedic tale of friendship and adventure The Road to Eldorado or Walt Disney's newest animation Dinosaurs to attract the junior audience during the one-month school holidays, while their parents enjoy Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible 2.
Sherina, directed by Riri Riza and Mira Lesmana, tells about friendship, children and family relationships coping with the entertainment business. In this film, produced by Miles Production and at a cost of about Rp 2 billion, Sherina will be accompanied by newcomers Derby Romero and vocal teacher Ucy Nurul. To make the film attractive to the local market, the producer has cast some stars from theater and movies, Didi Petet, Mathias Muchus, Butet Kertaredjasa, Djadoek Ferianto and Teater Koma's Ratna Riantiarno.
Musician Elfa Secioria composed the film's soundtrack Lihatlah Lebih Dekat, Take a Closer Look, which is also Sherina's second album.
Mira, the director and producer, said in a press meeting that the idea ofthe film came from Sherina and she adapted it into a musical production.
She admitted she explored ideas and inspirations from the classic films The Sound of Music and musical film Grease for her Petualangan Sherina.
""I wanted to make an entertaining film for Indonesian families,"" explained Mira. The release of Petualangan Sherina will be like a breath offresh air to the tainted Indonesian movie world, which has been crippled since the early l990s.
The last Indonesian film screened in the local movies was Nugroho's Puisi Tak Terkuburkan, Unburied Poems.
The producer of Petualangan Sherina will also launch video clips for Sherina's second albums, merchandises, websites (www.petualangansherina.com) and Sherina's fan club. (Endi Aras)
