On the Record: The Invisible Band
Album: The Invisible Band; Sony Music; Artist: Travis
There's another Travis from Wisconsin, but this one comes from Scotland.
The band's music is said to be a cross between Simon and Garfunkel, and U2.
Travis plays a harmless, folk, acoustic guitar-based music, along with mellow and sincere lyrics.
Last year the foursome was crowned best group in Great Britain and won best album for The Man Who, which sold like hotcakes in the UK.
The Invisible Band is Travis' third album, and features 12 tracks.
It starts off with the catchy, warm melodies of Sing, and continues with numbers that are highlighted by an orchestra and the occasional banjo.
But after several songs the thrill wears off. The tracks that follow sound similar and it begins to get difficult to tell one song from another.
Dull, rhyming lyrics such as ""Taking a while raising a smile/Raising a smile makes it all worthwhile"" in Afterglow, or The Cage's ""You broke the bread, we drank the wine/Your lip was bleedin' but it was fine"" begin to take their toll. It's just ... yawn.(Hera Diani)
