Officials told to reject gifts

JAKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) called on state officials not to accept gifts or other gratuities ahead of Christmas and New Year.

In its circular issued on Wednesday, KPK leadership said Law No. 30/2002 on KPK bans state officials from receiving gratuities.

Some gifts are in the form of cash, discounts, travel packages, medication or other facilities given to state officials in connection with their positions, for assumed favors at a later date.

The KPK had previously introduced the policy before Idul Fitri, sparking protests from gift vendors who complained about a decline in revenues following the ban.
