How to get to Langkawi

The Jakarta Post ,  Jakarta   |  Sun, 02/06/2005 10:51 AM  |  Life

A variety of carriers provide direct flights from major cities in Indonesia, such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, Padang, to Kuala Lumpur.

Among these, the most popular airline is probably Air Asia, which offers only budget fares. A two-hour Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur flight only costs around Rp 200,000 (US$22), and it costs only about $10 for a connecting flight to Langkawi.

More upmarket airlines that also serve similar routes include Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air and Malaysian Airlines.

Langkawi can also be reached by sea from mainland cities in Malaysia. It takes about 45 minutes via speedboat, and about RM 20 ($5) per person. -- JP
