One of the most unique and defining characteristics of Indonesia is its diversity, including ethnic diversity.

While fashion magazines, pageants and cosmetics companies tend to promote their idealized definition of what makes a women beautiful, The Jakarta Post marks International Women's Day by celebrating the diversity of beauty as defined by the ordinary women of Indonesia across cultural, ethnic and generational boundaries.

From cafe latte to espresso-colored skin, from newborn babes to wizened grandmothers, from moderate Islam to indigenous cultures, this week's Images presents a mosaic of women and their inherent beauty as they contribute to the nation's present -- and future. -- JP
