Official warns of hot spots

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Dozens of hot spots have been found in several regencies in South Sumatra province in the past few days, raising concern over the return of haze in the area.

Solichin, an official with the South Sumatra Forest Management Project, called on local residents on Thursday to avoid burning forest to open up new land for planting as this could lead to massive forest fires that causes haze.

Haze blanketed Palembang city last October and reduced visibility to less than one kilometer. -- JP
