JAKARTA: Huawei technologies Co.Ltd., one of major network providers for telecom operators around the world, signed Friday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Indonesian Directorate General of Post and Telecommunications (DGPT) to donate a CDMA 450 MHz system for rural areas.

According to the MOU, Huawei will construct a CDMA2000-1x EV-DO system network at the 450 MHz frequency. With the network system, the DGPT is poised to make further progress toward its universal service obligation to provide telecom services in rural areas.

Huawei is planning to construct 20 base transceivers in rural areas of East Java, located in Pacitan, Trenggalek, Madiun, Bondowoso and Situbondo.

Six transceivers, to be located in Pacitan, will cover 85 percent of the area. (06)
