JAKARTA: Central Jakarta Mayor Muhayat has sanctioned 106 civil servants for being late or absent on the first day after the Idul Fitri holiday in November.
Twenty three will miss out on promotions this year for not showing up for work, while the remaining 83 -- who were late -- will get lesser sanctions, Muhayat said in a press release made available to Antara news agency.
The sanctions are stipulated in a 1980 government regulation on the discipline of civil servants and a decree issued by the State Minister for Administrative Reforms in 2003 on working hours after long holidays.
The head of the municipality's manpower office, Nuraida, said civil servants who were at work, just not at their desks, were given the chance to explain themselves.-- JP
