2,000 rally for PKS anniversary

JAKARTA: Around 2,000 supporters of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) gathered here Sunday to celebrate the party's eighth anniversary.

The event, held at Senayan Stadium in Central Jakarta, began at 8 a.m. and lasted four hours. It was attended by PKS chairman Tifatul Sembiring, who delivered a speech to mark the event.

Tifatul used part of his speech to praise the service of teachers to the nation, in a nod to National Education Day on May 2.

""This anniversary event is focused on expressing appreciation for teachers,"" PKS spokesman Ika Fitriadi told detik.com news portal.

She said that as a token of appreciation, the party would present motorcycles to 20 select teachers during an official anniversary ceremony April 20. --JP
