Tangerang to host Koran recital contest

TANGERANG: Tangerang municipality will host Banten province's first Koran recital contest from April 27 to May 2.
At least 56 participants from four regencies and two municipalities of Banten have signed up for the contest.
""Banten province will send a delegation of this year's national (Koran recital) winners,"" the deputy chairman of the event's organizing committee, Achmad Chaerudin, said Tuesday.
The event will be held at Al A'zhom Grand Mosque and the administration's office complex.
Banten acting governor Ratu Atut Choisiah is scheduled to open the event Thursday evening.
The opening ceremony will be marked by the swearing in of 116 judges and performances by the Purwacaraka orchestra and dangdut singer Cici Paramida. -- JP
