Most people in the Western world have heard of the Rotary Club but perhaps don't know exactly what it is and what it does.
To paraphrase the official description, Rotary is an worldwide organization of 1.2 million business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help promote goodwill and peace in the world.
It operates through its local branches, or clubs, each of which raise money and fund projects for the benefit of their local communities and for select causes in the world.
Clubs frequently work together with those in the more prosperous nations, which contribute financial assistance to the activities of clubs in poorer countries.
The Seminyak Rotary Club is only one such club in Indonesia, which has approximately 1,900 Rotarians in 190 local clubs.
