Padang suspect to get 4 years

PADANG, West Sumatra: Prosecutors at the Padang District Court Thursday recommended a four-year prison term and a Rp 100 million (US$10,989) fine or another five months in jail for a suspect accused of misappropriating funds designated for setting up a Web site.

The former head of Mentawai Islands Development Planning Board, Roy Tjahjoko, was allegedly involved in the embezzlement of Rp 1.78 billion (US$200,000) for the Web site project.

Besides Roy, who is currently Mentawai Islands Housing and Regional Infrastructure Office head, prosecutors had also recommended a prison term of three years and two years respectively for two project managers from the private sector, Dody Baswardojo and Rita Marina.

They were charged with misappropriating the funds from the 2003 Mentawai regental budget for the Web site project www.mentawaionline.com.--JP
