At least 130 journalists from various media around the world, including The Jakarta Post, were invited to join the Malaysia Media Hunt 2006 recently.

During a week-long tour, journalists enjoyed various attractions at many tourist destinations in the five states of Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Penang and Kuala Lumpur across the Malaysian peninsula.

Riding in some 50 Proton national cars in a convoy, the journalists started on their tour from Putrajaya, Malaysia's new administrative capital.

Guarded by police officers and marshals, the convoy -- which might cause road-rage or -envy among motorists -- paraded through main streets and highways from Kuala Lumpur to Penang and then back again to Kuala Lumpur.

The Kuala Lumpur Tower, Blue Mosque in Selangor, Lumut Beach bordering the Strait of Malacca, Damai Laut resort, Orang Utan island, and Fort Cornwaliss in Penang were among the destinations on the journalists' tour itinerary.

Despite the hot weather and a tight schedule, the majority of journalists admitted that the trip was a memorable one, including their flight on Malaysian Airways (MAS).

The attractions were not only enjoyable, but they were also educational in that they offered visitors an opportunity to learn about and understand the Malaysian people's way of life through their traditions and customs, vibrant amid the modernity of their cities.
