JAKARTA: PT International Nickel Indonesia (PT Inco) is currently assessing the impact of a fire that hit one of the four electric furnaces at its Sorowako operations in Southeast Sulawesi early last week.
PT Inco, which has been operating in Sorowako since July 1968, said that a team was currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage, cost of repairs, time required for repairs, and the impact on production and customer deliveries.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the team has predicted, as reported by Antara on Monday, that it will need between seven and eight weeks to get the transformer back to normal.
The company said that no injuries had resulted from the fire, which occurred in the transformer room for electric furnace No. 2. 07
